Fact sheet on the influenza H1N1:

In view of the rising cases of the influenza H1N1, we have put together this information sheet.

It is our responsibility to ensure that our students’ education is unaffected and hence we are reopening as planned earlier. However, we also want to ensure that we are well prepared and that our parents are well informed to check the spread of this virus.

A detailed presentation has been uploaded on our website on the H1N1 flu.

If your child experiences any of the following symptoms (Fever, Cough, Sore Throat, Body Aches, Head Aches, Chills, Fatigues, Diarrhoea and Vomiting) they must stay at home, until they have been symptom free for at least 24 hours.

In light of the above we recommend that you take your child’s temperature on a regular basis and if your child has a temperature in excess of 38˚C, they must remain at home and a doctor should be consulted immediately. If your child should become ill while at school, he/she will be kept in isolation and the parent will be notified immediately to pick up the child from school.

As part of these measures we will promote good hand hygiene, regular cleaning and disinfection of surfaces in school and other infection control measures like advising students to cover the nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. We would also appreciate it if you could help us to reinforce the preventive measures with your child to protect your family.

Parents and students can prevent infection by avoiding close contact with people who show Influenza like symptoms and taking the following measures.
 Avoid touching your mouth nose and eyes.
 Clean hands thoroughly with soap and water or with an alcohol based hand rub on a regular basis.
 Reduce the time spent in crowded settings, if possible.
 Practice good health habits, including getting adequate sleep, eating nutritious food and keeping physically active.

The UAE FLU call centre is supervised by National Crisis Authority and DOHMS (the Dubai Health Authority). The toll free number 800-FLU(358).

Our teachers have been trained to identify suspected cases of H1N1 flu. The drivers and support staff have also undergone this training. Parents will be advised further, if the ministry regulations instruct us to close school in order to prevent the spread of the flu. We strongly urge parents not to withdraw their children unless given this advice because the students will lose valuable education time.
