HAITI DISASTER APPEAL

This is your time to help.

As you may have read and seen in the media, a massive, 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti near the capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12th.

The quakes, which struck about 15km south-west of Port-au-Prince, were quickly followed by two strong aftershocks of 5.9 and 5.5 magnitude. The tremor hit at 1653 (2153 GMT) on Tuesday, the US Geological survey said. Phone lines to the country failed shortly afterwards.

The damage to buildings is extensive and the number of injured or dead is estimated to be over 200,000. A quarter of a million more were injured and 1.5 million are left homeless.

Al Ameen Private School, Dubai, is organizing a ‘Help Haitians – Fund Raising Charity Drive’ on Monday, 25th January and Tuesday, 26th January 2010.

Each student is requested to donate a voluntary contribution of 10 Dhs towards this humanitarian cause. Students can also bring canned foods, with atleast 6 months of expiry time, blankets and new clothes. The donations received will be sent to the UAE Red Crescent Society.

The UAE Red Crescent has already sent 45 tonnes of medicine, medical staff, food and relief supplies purchased from the local market in co-ordination with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to Haiti.

We are certain that your donations would be greatly welcomed by the survivors of the earthquake and will play a vital role in rebuilding their lives.

Dear Mr. Mohammed

Further to our conversation yesterday, I would like to know if we can organize a ‘Charity Drive’ toward the Haiti Earthquake relief funds, from the students of our school.

We would like the students to contribute Dhs. 10/- each, and donate canned foods, blankets and new clothes.

We would like to organize this drive on the 25th and 26th of January. On the 27th of January, we will send the collections to your office.
